About

Sculptor & visual artist (b. 1990, Calmar, France)

After studying Game Design, Hugo Guérin graduated from Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2022. There, he developed his artistic research around the worlds of fantasy and science fiction. His work then shifted primarily to sculpture, which allows him to explore the figure of the monster and engage in a reflection on hybridity. His work has been exhibited at Pal Project in Paris for a solo show in 2023 and at Galerie Suzanne Tarasiève in 2024. In November 2024, he had his first solo exhibition at Traits Libres Gallery.

Fascinated by the figure of the monster, his work unfolds through a bestiary of deformed and hybrid bodies, as vulnerable as they are unsettling. They reveal an unadapted nature, incapable of acting upon the world, often torn between impulse and apathy.

Hugo's Work

Fascinated by the figure of the monster, his work takes the form of a bestiary of deformed and hybrid bodies, as vulnerable as they are disturbing. These figures reveal a maladjusted nature, caught between impulse and apathy, incapable of fully engaging with the world. Their seemingly simple forms carry an enigmatic quality, embodying a blurred duality—human and animal, inert and alive, natural and artificial. Through his work, Hugo Guérin provokes a reflection on perceptions of otherness and the grotesque.

"My work consists of a collection of strange, unsettling bodies—simultaneously powerful and pathetic—hybrids that are difficult to grasp at first glance. Despite their evident monstrosity, I strive to create a sense of naturalness in these deformed bodies, as if they belong to an imaginary anchored in reality, with simple forms that nonetheless maintain intrigue. A blurred duality emerges between human and animal, inert and alive, natural and artificial. I see this deformation as a slow erosion of bodies, the result of a gradual and invisible violence often mistaken for the natural order of things."
